Music festival eschews football screening out of respect for headliners, but people wheel out portable TVs

As the Glastonbury festival filled up on Sunday, there was an incongruous mix of England football shirts and cowgirl get-ups among the crowds.

England’s Euro 2024 football match against Slovakia kicked off at 5pm on Sunday, immediately after Shania Twain’s Legends slot and shortly before Avril Lavigne took to the Other stage at 6pm.

Explorer β€˜who named Australia’ to be reburied in Lincolnshire village where he was born

Hundreds to attend Donington service for Matthew Flinders, whose remains were found during digging for HS2

When the remains of the famous explorer Capt Matthew Flinders – credited with naming Australia – were discovered during the digging for HS2, Jane Pearson knew he had to be brought back home to Donington.

This little village in Lincolnshire, where Flinders was born in 1774, has been preparing for his arrival for months, and is gearing up to welcome a host of Australian dignitaries travelling over for his reburial in July.

Fans angry after being turned away from Sugababes show while Bicep set halted over safety concerns

Glastonbury festival is known for its mammoth crowds – with more than 200,000 people descending on Worthy Farm for the event each year, the huge audiences in front of the big stages are a sight to behold.

But this year festivalgoers have been left frustrated by overcrowding at smaller stages, which have led to areas being closed off to prevent crowd crushes and one act being forced to halt their set.

As she stopped to chat under a sign calling on people to β€œVote Out to Help Out”, Ellie Lee said she was excited to be spending what is expected to be the final days of the Conservative government at Glastonbury festival.

β€œWe are very excited to get rid of the Tories,” the 29-year-old, sporting a Fuck the Tories necklace, said. β€œAll of my adult life has been the Tories, basically. It will be so nice to have a bit of change, and a bit of optimism.”

Seventeen make history as first K-pop band to perform at Glastonbury

South Korean 13-piece boyband take to Pyramid stage for β€˜Glasteen’ in front of fanbase often overlooked by western festivals

When they bought their Glastonbury tickets last year, Leah Townsend and Taz Delarosa never expected their favourite K-pop band to end up in the lineup. β€œI cried so much when we found out,” said Delarosa, 26. β€œI think this is going to be massive for them.”

β€œI was over the moon,” added Townsend, 26. β€œIt was completely unexpected – we didn’t think it was going to happen.”
