Family fear worst for boy who went missing in River Mersey

Relatives of 14-year-old Daniel Halliday say they are devastated after he got into trouble in the water on Sunday

The family of a teenager who went missing in the River Mersey have said β€œour worst fear is that this tragic accident has taken our lovely boy from us”.

Daniel Halliday, 14, had been jumping waves with his older brother near Crosby beach when he got into trouble, his family said. His brother tried to help him but the current was too strong.

A Manchester University graduate has been jailed for importing and selling illegal medicines on eBay and Amazon.

Antoine Christopher Kolias was sentenced on Friday to three and a half years in prison.

β€˜I don’t feel like your vote counts’: little faith in politics among young people of Nottingham

Labour is almost certain to retain Nottingham East but many plan to stay away or spoil their ballot

A handmade banner bearing the words β€œGeneration Fucked” hangs in the window of Earache Records in Nottingham. It is a relic of a past band signed by the label long ago. But the red and black lettering also spells out a rallying cry for the city’s youth.

Nottingham is one of the UK’s youngest cities, with a median age of 31. Here, young people told the Guardian of their heartfelt concerns about the job market, the economy, housing, international conflicts and climate change.
